Anatoli village, a very old settlement from Venetian times, has kept its historic character and is being rapidly renovated as a unique vacation resort in southern Crete. Anatoli is located at an altitude of 640 metres, 31 km south of Agios Nikolaos and 14 km north-west of Ierapetra. Anatoli preserves its traditional architecture and it remains unaffected from tourism, since there is an active cultural society aiming at sustainable development.
The semi mountainous landscape of Anatoli village is very picturesque, combining olive trees groves, sculptured rock formations and spectacular views to the south coast of Crete. Before the construction of the main road, the villagers used paths that are still preserved, to go to neighboring villages, to agricultural land and to 4 little Byzantine churches in the vicinity of the Anatoli village. All these places are of outstanding beauty and make excellent walks for families and couples.
A British couple, Suzanne and Alistair, have permanently settled in Anatoli, and have an animal farm, organizing mule and donkey excursions along some of these old paths.
Sandy beaches extend either to the northeast (the gulf of Mirabello), or to the southeast (Ierapetra, Libyan Sea).
