Almyrida has many restaurants and tavernas, mostly along the shore.

Almyrida is famous for its fresh fish, so it’s a good idea, even if you’re just passing through, to stop and enjoy the fish at one of the seaside tavernas, literally lapped by the waves.

Be a bit careful if it’s windy, as you may be unexpectedly “cooled off” by a breaking wave as you sit and enjoy your meal.

Cafés and bars in Almyrida

In Almyrida you will find tasteful establishments and many cafeterias with interesting decoration, mostly warm and welcoming.

Most of the cafeterias also turn into bars in the evening, but Almyrida isn’t exactly famed for its nightlife. Of course, this is for you to decide, as the definition of “hopping nightlife” depends on personal preference.

Hotels in Almyrida

Almyrida has developed into a tourist resort for families and people who want peace and quiet on their holidays, so there are many comfortable hotels in the area.

You will find hotels in Almyrida at a range of prices, lower than those in busier resorts. There are also plenty of apartments for rent and studio apartments – mainly aimed at those who intend to stay here longer – as well as villas with a panoramic view of the village and the beach.

Finally, several estate agents renting homes operate in Almyrida, mainly owned by Britons letting out their property (a common phenomenon across the Apokoronas area).

If you find a boat to take across to the little island of Karga opposite Almyrida, you will see the ancient ruins preserved there and the German underground fortifications from the Second World War. Today the island is a habitat for many endemic and migrant bird species.

Almyrida is the ideal base for excursions into the surrounding countryside of Apokoronas. You can visit Κalyves, the traditional village of Vamos, which is the largest in the area, or Armeni, about 15 km away, with its ancient olive groves, plane trees and streams.

Plaka is a small village breasted on the hill above Almirida. Tourism is still making its first steps here, thus the village retains its traditional character. A leisure walk in Plaka late in the afternoon will give you the chance to enjoy the most beautiful sunset in the entire region.

Only a short distance from Almyrida (4 km) is Kokkino Chorio (Red Village), which preserves its traditional architecture of narrow streets and low houses with tiled roofs and lovely courtyard gates. You will find many such villages, large and small, in Apokoronas.
