George Tavladorakis, Underwater Photography

George Tavladorakis lives in Iraklion, Crete. One of his hobbies is scuba diving, especially when he can engage in underwater photography. He has been diving since 1992 and taking underwater photos since 1995.

He has dived all over Crete, both in the North and the South Coast. He has also dived in many areas in Greece (Ionion Sea, North Aegean Sea, Cyclades), as well as in some countries abroad (Red Sea, Maldives, Indonesia, Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Carribean Sea, Bahamas). He uses a Nikonos-V underwater camera.

A few words about Scuba Diving in Greece

“In Greece we do not yet face the same ecological problems that South France or the Adriatic Sea face, although over-fishing is a serious problem here too.

Visibility in the Greek seas is excellent and it is regarded as some of the best in the world. In summer the average visibility is 30 or more meters.

There is a great variety of fish and sea-plants. Some Red Sea species have appeared in the Greek seas since the construction of the Suez canal.

In general, scuba diving in Crete and Greece is pleasurable as the water temperature is high (average water temperature in Crete in August is 26 Celcium degrees), the visibility is excellent and there are no currents”.
